Teshee Venkatesh’s 2012 Kannada film Olavina Ole had a plot similar to Sairat. Manasu has many scenes similar to director S Narayan’s own 2007 film, Cheluvina Chittara. That, however, was the wrong reason to remake it in Kannada. Manasu Mallige had created a lot of buzz because it was the remake of Sairat, which had gone on to become the highest grossing Marathi film last year. Those problems still remain leaving filmmakers with no other way of retelling it even with new faces. It has been ten years and the problems faced by young lovers who do not take into consideration their class or caste background before falling in love remains the same. Manasu Mallige is a Cheluvina Chittara for a new generation of film audience. ![]()
